Gary King was born in Plymouth in 1976; however his family moved to Somerset when he was a young child and he grew up in the Street and Glastonbury area. Gary is as proud of his Plymouth roots as he is of his adopted Somerset and has always found the West Country to be a major influence in his life and art.
Gary has always found himself inspired by his family and close friends but it was a Henry Moore sculpture that stood outside the Clarks site in Street that proved to be a huge influence on him, and one that along with a real admiration for Barbara Hepworth and her sculptures, that kindled a desire to sculpt.
In 1997 Gary sketched and painted his way round the world, and found the awe-inspiring new experiences and sights that awaited him to be the most poignant motivation in his life.
Many of Gary's works are infused with modern and contemporary ideas and can at times lean towards graffiti art; his works are often energetic, vivid and dramatic in colour and feature surreal and dream like images.
